Some churches do not observe the season of Lent, but we do. Lent is an observance commemorating the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert, according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, before beginning his public ministry, during which he endured temptation by Satan. In this season we contemplate our mortality and temptations in the light of the cross while we talk about Jesus’s journey to the cross.
